Initials "ADR" and fully hallmarked. According to World Hallmarks by Hallmark Research institute the hallmarks each stand for something. The Head figure is the dutch assay mark used from 1814-1953, the lion passant with the number two underneath it represents the metal purity as "833", the stylized letter P stands for the exact year this piece was made which is 1824.

The buckle measures 3" wide and 2.75" tall. The heart-shaped hole in the catch measures almost 11m wide.

Notable Features:
This buckle has classic Georgian Era craftsmanship. The front of the buckle has hand-chased and hand-hammered swirl patterns. If you look closely along the raised button portions, you can see the hammer marks from it being made. The buckle would of been worn with a cape, a sash, or many other garments during this period. Most often it was used for a sash around the waist. It includes a moving hook and catch to place one through.

The History
This beautiful piece was made during the Georgian Period! The Georgian Period is world famous for bearing some of the finest handmade silver jewelry ever. This period started in the 1700's and lasted until the early 1800's.
The chasing technique is a very difficult silversmith process when the artist uses a nail like tool and hammer to hand etch patterns within the metal work. This process was very difficult and only the best jewelers were trained in the process.
833 Silver was used only in Europe in countries such as Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, and Scandinavian countries. This purity of silver was used due to the silver coinage of the time being made out of that purity of silver, it was easier for the artist to melt and flatten out silver coins to get a direct purity for their silver making.
