    Dosimetry
    Before starting work on all phone and tablet models:
    Download and install on your device any free or paid program from the Play Market, the simplest and most popular "Smart Geiger", we advise you to start with it. It is quickly configured and you can immediately start measuring background radiation and searching for radioactive objects.
    After installation, you must allow the selected program to access the microphone in the device settings.
    Be sure to switch your android device to "Flight" mode for all devices ( Be sure to Wi-Fi, NFC, Bluetooth turn off on your device ).
    Insert the sensor into the 3.5 jack of your device until it clicks.
    The "headset" icon should appear on the screen (not on all devices, but on most it will appear).
    Run the program and make the settings (once for each program).
    Make sure the phone is far enough away from other cell phones and Wi-Fi routers.
    Start measuring:
    In the "Smart Geiger" program, the natural background radiation should show 10 μR / h (0.10 μSv / h), at a normal level of the radiation background, the screen will always show “0.10 μSv / h”, occasionally, once every few minutes, it may increase - this a powerful particle hit directly into the sensor and triggered a powerful pulse.
    The sensor is not sensitive to cosmic rays, therefore, in places with very low background radiation, the Smart Geiger application can show a very low count rate - up to several counts per hour, this does not affect the measurement accuracy, but increases the time for measuring the background radiation.
    Measurement time of radioactive objects: 30 seconds.
    Background radiation: 3-5 minutes.

    Spectrometry
    When you figured out the measurements of Geiger Counter you can do the spectra - this is the most complex, but the most valuable and interesting function of this device, which is inaccessible to most household dosimeters. Spectra allow you to identify isotopes, and help to identify weak contamination and determine which isotope it is on the scale graph.
    A spectrum is a graph, in which the horizontal is the particle energy, and the vertical is the number of registered particles with a specific energy.

    When you installing this program, you need to go to the settings and uncheck all the "checkboxes", then set "Reduced to: 1024 ch. ".
    The main parameter is the "Noise discriminator" noise threshold, it can have any values (usually from 300 to 3000, depending on the phone model). It is necessary to select such a value at which from the natural background in the upper left corner of the settings window will be "cps: 0" and occasionally (a couple of times per minute) "cps: 1".
    The value "cps: 0" means that the program does not capture sensor noise, and occasionally appearing "cps: 1" means that it sees not only powerful, but also weak pulses from weak particles (the sensor sees all particles, but need what the program would have seen them).
    If "Noise Discriminator" is less than 400 then the noise suppressor is enabled in the phone and it is desirable to disable it. If this parameter is less than 250, it means that the squelch is not working correctly and must be disabled, otherwise the spectra will be highly compressed (read how to disable it on the Internet about your phone).
    Pulse from Sensor has two half waves: sharp and plain. If app has an option like Reverse Input or Invert input, you should act in the way which allows the app to detect the sharp half wave instead of the plain one. On different phone models, the Atom Spectra program can show pulses up or down from the time axis, inverting the input in the program settings corrects this.
    With the correct setting, the natural background on the spectrum will give one or two pulses per minute and look mainly like lines on the left of the screen (in the low energy region). In the presence of radiation, lines will appear, which will line up in a figure according to the isotope.
    To measure an item (like as berries or mushrooms):

    If your natural background does not exceed normal values and there are no radioactive objects nearby, it will be more difficult for you to understand how it works.     When the sensor is connected, the program is turned on and the program is running, put on the sensor a cap with a ring from the protective case, so that the yellow bead is as close to the sensor body as possible.You will see that the pulses will increase to about 1-2 every 10 seconds and the radioactive background in the program may increase to the yellow level. Single pulses will also appear in the spectrum in the place of the spectrum of the uranium glass.
    This source is safe and can only be dangerous if ingested. One bead emits pulses so weak and at such a short distance that practically no dosimeter can detect them.
