PRODUCT INFORMATION
At one time, surround speakers were used only to provide ambient effects, but today they must reproduce signal equivalent to the main channels. In addition to wide dispersion, surround systems must pro- vide flat, full range frequency response and high power handling.
With the CR81 compact full range surround system, tomorrow’s full bandwidth digital surround tracks will sound big, even-in smaller theaters. An 8-in woofer plus a 33-mm dome tweeter loaded with EAW's proprietary WGP® (Wave Guide Plate®) provide high-power handling and full range frequency response. The slanted baffle lets this system be mounted above sightlines, and the 100° conical dispersion pattern dis- tributes high-impact sound over a wide area, even when ceilings are low. High power handling allows designers to use fewer enclosures to cover a given seating area, reducing costs for both equipment and installation. This powerful, compact system delivers detailed natural, reproduction of the 360° aural arena. THX certification is pending.
COMPONENTS & CONSTRUCTION
The full range cinema surround loudspeaker system employs one 8-in cone transducer mounted in an optimally vented enclosure and one 33-mm soft dome driver coupled with a WGP®. The subsystems are integrated with a complex, multicomponent passive crossover and equal- ization network.
The enclosure is constructed of 15-mm, void-free, cross-grain-laminated birch plywood. Extensive internal bracing is employed to minimize panel resonances resulting from the large acoustical energies generated within the enclosure while maximizing acoustical energy transfer into the au- dience area. Input connectors, located on the top of the enclosure, are two-terminal barrier strip, designed to accommodate bare wire, tinned leads or spade lugs. The enclosure is finished in flat black polyurethane and includes a black cloth grill. For safety, the grill is attached with multiple threaded fasteners.
