Description
All purpose/close contact English saddle from Gibson Newmarket Saddlers Limited (Made in England). Includes 44-58" stirrup leathers and stirrups (these are unbranded). 16" seat and narrow tree. I reached out to the company for info on this saddle and since they went over to electronic records they don't have information on their older saddles anymore but they were able to tell me it's at least 30 yrs old. Great condition considering it's age. It does have a tear on the lining (shown in pic 10). The rings on the sides of the panels do have some tarnish. Stirrup leathers are in fair condition and have a strong old leather smell. Saddle and leathers were just cleaned with saddle soap.I reached out to a saddle designer who is knowledgeable with vintage Gibson saddles and they gave me a little more history, "
Gibson Saddlers was purchased from Col. F. E. Gibson by the current owners in 1964. The saddle is their all purpose model and is more than 30 years old (at least 40yrs). The all purpose was developed after WWII and is based on Col. Gibson's pre-war designs and further input from the late Tony Collins (Porlock Vale Riding School), where the British Three Day Event Team trained in the 1950's."
