Most authors bristle at the changes that befall their work in the transition from page to screen, but Vladimir Nabokov diverged quite a bit from his own novel in his adapted screenplay. Kubrick decided to alter most of Nabokov's screenplay and embrace the more farcical elements of the story, albeit in a subtle and sometimes subversive way. Nabokov generally liked and appreciated the film but apparently regretted spending so much time in an adaptation for naught. This lobby card set features James Mason -- as Humbert Humbert, the protagonist for whom David Niven, Marlon Brando and Errol Flynn were considered, Shelley Winters, and of course, Sue Lyon as the title character.
